Behind the Rankings - Week 1

By: Randy Savage Jr.

Week 1 is in the books. All of the super Saturday events are done, with a few complications due to field conditions and weather. What have we gathered from this?

Much like every year, you can usually have an idea of the teams that will be at the top, coming into the season, but there are always teams in the second echelon that move up to the point of looking like  contenders, early in the year. This weekend  proved that.

Early season injuries can affect some teams, and many coaches don't like to show anything early on film. As we build toward the teams to play ahead, we have a better idea of a starting point now as to how the season may play out. Just as the kids are learning this year, the coaches are as well. Young coaches and old coaches alike, are confronted with a new set of kids and a new set of skills to work with. Coaches have moved to new towns and kids have moved to new coaches. This is how the game works in Texas. In the end.. we will play it off on the field, and once again, the rankings won't matter.

For the teams that came out victorious, keep a solid head upon your shoulders, because there are many tests ahead. For the teams that didn't make the cut, the same applies, because there are still 6 weeks of improvement left before any game that truly matters come to pass.
